Mommy's Little Boy

Uncle Julian and Aunty Winnie bought a story book called "Mommy's Little Boy" for William a couple of years back during his visit from America.  Victoria has one similar too, but in purple and titled, "Mommy's Little Girl."

I'm writing out parts of this story about "Mommy's Little Boy" which is one of William's favourite books, because well, he is mommy's little boy.  I like this story too, and hope one day when William is older, even if just a couple of years down the road, he will still consider himself my little boy.

Before I start, lemme just say that yesterday when we were Lego-ing together in the morning, I asked him in the midst of his concentration, "William one day you will not be playing lego anymore.  You will be like Daddy, going to work, having your own friends, going out with your friends, and no time for Mummy."

My boy looked up, still with his serious face, he gave me such a matured answer, "Mummy, I will still come home and see you."

"Really?"  And as if he understood I needed the assurance, he came over and hugged me tight and planted three kisses - our customary kiss ie one on each cheek and the last on the lips.

This is SO NOT a clip from a movie, my friend.  Neither a dream or a wish.  But a heart-warming 5 minutes with my growing up son that I wish can be replayed over and over again.

***

Mommy's Little Boy by Ronne Randall and Kristina Khrin talks about a special relationship between a boy around the age of 5, Robbie, and his Mommy.  Here's parts of the books that I love best...

One day, as they were walking home, Robbie asked Mommy, "Will I always be your little boy?"
"Yes," said Mommy, "Always."

"Even when I am bigger?"  Robbie asked.  "Yes, even when you are bigger," Mommy replied.

"Will I be your little boy even if I grow bigger than you?"  Robbie asked.  "Yes," said Mommy.

"Even if I grow as big as a house?"  asked Robbie.  "Even then!" said Mommy, laughing.

***

"I might become an astronaut" said Robbie. (William says he wants to become an astronaut everytime we ask him)  "Will I still be your little boy when I'm an astronaut flying to the moon?"

"Of course,"  said Mommy.  "Even if you fly all the way to Mars, you will still be my little boy."

***

"And you are still my little boy,"  said Mommy, giving him a good-night kiss, "and you always will be.  Sweet dreams!"

Don't they grow up all too soon? The boy that used to speed on his walker and purposely bumping himself into the wall is now proudly spelling his name on my iPad, happily singing songs aloud in the house and every now and then reminds us that he is now a big boy, drinking his big boy milk (I upgraded him to Enfakid eventhough it is for 4yr+ due to economical factors because William is guzzling down so much milk everyday), entertaining himself on my iPad, wearing socks by himself... but still lazy to feed himself during mealtimes!

Pictures of Bentong over the weekend

We went up to Bentong last Friday, which was a public holiday being Malaysia Day together with our cell group friends. There were altogether 14 adults and 8 kids, all booked into the One World Lodge Hotel.

I practically did nothing much except eat and hang around the hotel.  On the way up, William soiled his pants with soft stool, my fault really for thinking that he would tell me when and if he needs to answer natures call.  Afterall, it was only a short 1 hour drive up from KL.  But guess with friends around, he was shy, even when we suspected and asked him in the car, he kept saying no.  But all 5 cars including mine stopped at the Janda Baik petrol station, and poor boy was sitting on his own very soft pasty stool, and some even dropped down from his pants when he got out to walk.

In my haste to dig for clean clothings and a diaper and baby wipes from the car boot, I bended a nail that made it tore from both ends, and the pain was excruciating.  Seconds later as I got distracted with William walking around the car by himself in the petrol station, I slammed the car boot into fingers of my right hand that were already in pain, but the pain from the chipped off nail worst and that covered the pain from the car boot.  What arse luck, you could say.  And now I have to go clean some arse - really this was all my fault, I was silently blaming myself.

After the nail came out on the next morning...

But God is always good, and thank God that even as hubs was not around as he has left earlier with a few other cell group men with their duties as transporters, a good friend in my car helped me clean William up.  I did a quick rinse of both William's soiled pants and shirt behind the petrol station at their wash area.  Boy was very quiet and cooperative - guess feeling bad?

After this, Victoria hopped into another car to spare herself the ordeal of smelling foul.  William's car seat was stained and sent to the boots.  In the car continuing our journey, I asked William why he didn't tell me that he needed to poo.  He mumbled some answers but I guess he was just shy.  So lesson learnt, next time I better not take any risk and just wear diaper for him.

We arrived late morning, checked in, got the family suite that came with a lounge and 3 bedrooms each with en-suite bathroom, pantry facilities and even an LCD TV! The rest of us took individual rooms each. My first impression of this hotel was... wow, this place really exceeded my expectations.  The thing is, my other experience with 3 star hotels in small towns were not entirely satisfactory (read, the one in Lumut) but this hotel in Bentong was clean, even to the Koreans, and well maintained.  The furnishings and electrical items were in good condition, relatively new and the staff were all Chinese and one even spoke fluent English but all were very friendly and helpful.

Later I discovered that our mattresses were covered with mattress protectors, and they were not old.  I did a quick but not thorough check on the pillows that were clean and not stained.  Me being me, I even swiped my fingers on the decorative flowers and window panels to check for dust - almost nil.  : )  Another big added point is this hotel is located in the centre of down, very strategic opposite the market, and within walking distance to all the famous Bentong food.

I let the pictures do the talking...

The famous home made egg-free Bentong ice cream shop.  Outside the shop is a makcik selling nasi lemak with an out-of-this-world sambal.

Digging into his coconut ice cream.  Personally, I like the coconut ice cream from Paramount PJ better but hubs said the Bentong ice cream is more creamy and not too sweet.

Comes with different mix of condiments.

On the first night dinner, we ate at Golden Court - an air conditioned restaurant which also caters to wedding dinner.  In fact, there was one upstairs at the time we ate but the food quality is magnificent, service was fast and price for two tables of 22 pax came to RM400. Very very reasonable. Pictures taken of some dishes from our table (the kiddy table, so all children-friendly food except for one)

This is one of their signature dish - brinjal with minced pork.

Their sweet and sour pork was tender and not the kind with fatty parts hidden inside.

Braised tofu.

I think this is belacan or spicy mixed vegetables.

Deep fried telapia fish with generous heaps of crunchy garlic garnishings.

The next morning, I had Vietnamese noodles at a kopitiam a few blocks from the hotel.  Run by a man and a Vietnamese lady whom we speculate could be his mail order bride wife.

For lunch, I had the nasi lemak outside the ice cream shop.   I love cucur udang, but this one is below average and not recommended.  Just eat her nasi lemak and sambal is good enough.

William with his Korean girlfriend, Rebecca.  The same girl made special efforts to take care of him when we were in Korea last November.

Making funny faces at the camera.

With two pretty girls, Rebecca and Wynette.

Playing with friends.

Vic doing her yoga : )

William relaxing himself.

Morning market opposite our hotel.  Sells vegetables, fish still swimming, clothings, etc

The popular wan tan mee stall was sold out by lunch time on the second day.  On our last day, we ate there for breakfast.  Also one who loves wan tan mee, I say this stall's wan tan mee is worth a 5 star review because the noodle is soft yet bouncy, the char siew is lean and tasty and the wantans are smooth and delightful.

My favourite! Next time I will eat 3 bowls!

Visit to a family managing a goat farm.  Vic with a good friend, Aunty Sharon.  The goats are a special breed, very clean and looks huggable to me.  Unfortunately I skipped this part of the programme as William was  rather laugai after lunch and I decided to stay back in the hotel with him to let him rest.  Turned out he rested only an hour, whilst the rest went to visit the farm and Chamang waterfall.

Second night dinner we ate here.

The restaurant's signature dish... something something chicken.  Not bad.

We left Bentong after at noon on Sunday.  Will not mind returning for the wan tan mee... hehehe.

Party with a bear and angry birds

Last Saturday, Vic attended her classmate, Cayden's birthday at A&W. When I RSVP-ed to Cayden's mom, I thought it was just a drop-your-child-off kinda party, but she asked if Vic had any siblings coming along. So, William went along, and I became their chaperone. : )

Using my GPS (yes I am that hopeless!), we found our way without any wrong turns to Subang's A&W at 2:00pm sharp. There were already some kids and parents there, and the party started a few minutes later, with all of the birthday boy's classmates sitted on one side of the food table, with individual meal packs at each seat.

The parents and siblings had free seating on the other side, and almost instantly, Vic came by to hand William her hotdog (which she can't take). He dug in whilst I watch, and chatted with fellow mommy blogger / mom of Vic's classmate . Then Vic popped by again, this time bringing me a burger, saying that she saw I had no food. How nice!

The kids played games with the A&W bear, Vic was very sporting and she has grown out of her fear of this bear since meeting one when she was about 3 and screaming out in tears! William was fine until the games started and he probably felt left out not knowing how to play (that's what he told me) and leeched on to me.

The highlight of the party was also the cake... an Angry Bird cake, which I discovered was personally made by the birthday boy's talented mommy!

And the party packs were... without guessing... Angry Bird! The host were very thoughtful to give a file, eraser, ruler, stickers lead pencil. My two kids, though tired and past William's nap time, were chatting happily and comparing their gifts in the car like best friends!

Chased out by my son

As I type this, I have been chased out of the bathroom by William, who is pushing 3.5years and has learnt to take bath on his own. Yes, for 3 consecutive days now he has been putting on the bathing soap, washing himself and rinsing off by himself. I basically just shampoo his hair and wash his bottom and hard-to-reach-areas before he says, "Mummy can you go out?"

When he's done, this boy will turn off the water by himself, wears his own pants (depends on mood and also after a lot of running around bottomless) and if he is feeling vain, he'd scoop his hair up into the "mohawk" hairstyle.

In between, my job is to wait outside the bathroom for him, dry him up and wear his shirt.

Just a passing phase I presume... before he wants mummy to bath him again - just like Vic. : )

How thoughtful

And another excerpt, this time of my 6yo who surprised me one recent night when I was about to take my bath.

I walked into my room, to find the room light already switched on, the bathroom light AND heater light both on, the bathroom door ajar. As I took a peep into the bathroom, I hear the shower dripping with water, someone must have turned on the shower knob but not tall enough to press the heater button on, so the water was almost bursting out!

I smiled when I realised it must be Vic! So I went out to ask her, and then thanked her.

Another surprise awaited me when I saw this...

... at 9pm, my little helper has also prepared my toothbrush with toothpaste on. : )

Egg-free mooncakes

Yesterday a friend of mine who brought over two beautifully home-made, specially made egg-free lotus paste mooncakes for Victoria. I can't say who is more thrilled - Vic or me, because last week when I nibbled on some "normal" mooncakes, she looked longingly at me, and asked me what they tasted like.

The egg-free mooncakes were customed made for Vic over the weekend, by a friend of my friend, with request for less sugar.

Vic digging in to her first piece... William and I shared 1/8th.

My reward for cleaning ass

Here's a very short account of what happened this morning when I was cleaning William's bum bum after he deposited his "big business proceeds."  He was sitting on the throne, bent over with head buried into my belly, whilst I bent forward to wipe his cute bottom at the same time being greeted by the natural foul smell of human stool.  Just a side note that one can never be bored with such vast variety of a mother's job - but this is definitely not one on the top of the list.

Yet, if ever there is a feeling of disgust at the sight or ordour, it has all dissipated away when William innocently proclaims, "Mummy, I love you."

Aaahhh...

My one month old baby

About a month ago hubby and I was contemplating to buy a food detoxifier, namely the Okamizu. After a little research on the internet on how ozone is proven to effectively sterialize food, herbs, bottles, utensils, and a personal review by a mommy blogger friend and finally a house demo, we made the investment on this new baby - as well as negotiated for some freebies.

So there... here it is...

And here it is at work... removing the hormones, pesticides, chemicals, bacterias and antibiotics from our meat before cooking.

The gooey, sticky, plasticky stuff that is emitted from the meat and poultry is quite terrifying. The salesperson did a test that even this stuff cannot be burnt with a lighter. I have thus been ozonizing my meat, poultry, herbs, vegetables and occasionally William's milk bottles and teats. Every morning, I make an extra effort to drink two cups of ozonised water (recommended within 20 minutes) and hubby too, as well as the maid.

Just a note here that after making this purchase, I have not but I do intend to one day, test the Okamizu on the free-range, supposedly chemical-free pork from Sanbanto. I wonder if I will see any gooey sticky foam...
