Nope, I did not get her birthday wrong. My little baby is turning 4 yo in 4 days' time.
Last year we planned a surprise birthday dinner for her at Swenson's so she can enjoy her favourite, yummy ice creams. (Of course, that was before we knew she had allergy to egg and diary, etc)
But on the morning of her birthday, her body felt warm in the morning, and she came back from school, tired, inactive, sleepy and developed high fever. I remembered how she refused to see the doctor and we thought we could convince her to take her medication at home, but that failed. Daddy chose a kitchen set for her surprise birthday present.

We had to scrap the dinner at Swenson's and secretly promised to bring her for her ice cream treat another day. Her dinner venue was moved to a chinese restaurant (I think it was Overseas) in Subang Parade instead. She didn't have the appetite naturally, but was chirpier when we did the cake cutting. We each wore the cone party hats which she hand picked a week before her birthday while grocery-shopping with Daddy. (Each day nearing her birthday, I remembered how she wanted to wear her party hat to school and at home)
Despite the fever and fatigue, she offered each one of us (Mama, Yeh Yeh, Yi sok, Yee sam, Daddy, Mummy and Kakak) a cake. Her energy didn't last long, because on the way back, she fell asleep in the car. Her fever persisted and even the suppository did not help. Nearing midnight on her birthday, we rushed her to the Emergency Centre at Pantai Hospital. After treatment and the fever under control, we came home and rested.
What a birthday to remember!

Barney cake: Before

Barney cake: After (She said we can't cut Barney and I kept that Barney image in my fridge for more than a month, I think)

This year we will celebrate both Victoria and William's birthday together, and rather big. We've already got Victoria's birthday present hidden somewhere in the house (it's a surprise yet not so much of a surprise since she's been asking for it) but still have not thought of what to get for our son turning 1yo.
Last night, I was asking hubby, "What does a one year old boy need?" I think the answer is simple. We don't want the kids to be overly pampered with gifts and materials, and what we will give to William is something for his future education.
