William loves his baths. If we dare to shortchange him by cutting short the time, chances are you will hear him cry in anger!

Rewind: Victoria's 3rd Birthday

Nope, I did not get her birthday wrong. My little baby is turning 4 yo in 4 days' time.

Last year we planned a surprise birthday dinner for her at Swenson's so she can enjoy her favourite, yummy ice creams. (Of course, that was before we knew she had allergy to egg and diary, etc)

But on the morning of her birthday, her body felt warm in the morning, and she came back from school, tired, inactive, sleepy and developed high fever. I remembered how she refused to see the doctor and we thought we could convince her to take her medication at home, but that failed. Daddy chose a kitchen set for her surprise birthday present.

We had to scrap the dinner at Swenson's and secretly promised to bring her for her ice cream treat another day. Her dinner venue was moved to a chinese restaurant (I think it was Overseas) in Subang Parade instead. She didn't have the appetite naturally, but was chirpier when we did the cake cutting. We each wore the cone party hats which she hand picked a week before her birthday while grocery-shopping with Daddy. (Each day nearing her birthday, I remembered how she wanted to wear her party hat to school and at home)

Despite the fever and fatigue, she offered each one of us (Mama, Yeh Yeh, Yi sok, Yee sam, Daddy, Mummy and Kakak) a cake. Her energy didn't last long, because on the way back, she fell asleep in the car. Her fever persisted and even the suppository did not help. Nearing midnight on her birthday, we rushed her to the Emergency Centre at Pantai Hospital. After treatment and the fever under control, we came home and rested.

What a birthday to remember!

Tongue twirling for the camera and her happy party hat

Barney cake: Before

Barney cake: After (She said we can't cut Barney and I kept that Barney image in my fridge for more than a month, I think)

This year we will celebrate both Victoria and William's birthday together, and rather big. We've already got Victoria's birthday present hidden somewhere in the house (it's a surprise yet not so much of a surprise since she's been asking for it) but still have not thought of what to get for our son turning 1yo.

Last night, I was asking hubby, "What does a one year old boy need?" I think the answer is simple. We don't want the kids to be overly pampered with gifts and materials, and what we will give to William is something for his future education.

Cheeky girl

Close relatives and family members may know that Victoria is not really what she look like on the first (or even second, third) impression. My soon-to-be 4yo is quite a cheeky, playful girl. Sometimes I think she may have inherited some of hubby's or my "joker" genes.

For example, last night I was changing her to her PJs and wiping her face, neck and back with her face flannel. I know she loves the back wipe, and she keeps telling me that it's her "favvvvoouuuurrittee". Then she cheekily told me to wipe her backside as well.

"Here... (she pulls her pants half down and turn around, facing her bum to me)... wipe my backside too!"

"Eeeeuuuuu!!" I said.

Then I took her wet face flannel, and smack it on each side of her bum playfully... and said, "Done!"

I wonder if William will be the same, and next time I may have one bigger bum and one smaller bum pointed at me with requests to have it wiped!

Work at F1

Hubby was on duty at the Formula One race on Friday, Saturday and supposedly today. Unlike previous years where he gets some rest day, this year he has to be there for the whole 3-day race plus the Stylo party last night. However he felt a little under the weather this morning and was put on standby for today's race.

Victoria didn't see Daddy at all yesterday.

This morning, she woke and saw Daddy in the room. Daddy asked if he could come to her bed and sleep beside her, and she said OK, but just for a little while. Then she told Daddy that she wished he don't go to work today coz she said she miss him.

Hubby told me that that really made his day!! We all missed him.

Possessive little fella

Is William possessive? Does he stick to me like a superglue when we see strangers or when we go out? Does he mind being carried by people he's less familiar with? Actually, I'd think not. No he's OK with my friends and relatives carrying him (of course a few times it takes warming up) and he's not really sticky to me EXCEPT at night when he wants to sleep. However, he does shows his preference but no squealing or whinning or yelling. That, I thank God tremendously... because we've encountered the other extreme with the older child (the impact is worst when at one time, we were the "rejected" ones).

Yesterday whilst at Victoria's kindy, I carried another Mummy's baby, who's 6 months younger than William. When he saw that, he wanted to get out from the maid's embrace. After I returned the baby to his mother, William wanted me to carry him which I took it that he wanted assurance that Mummy still loves him.

Two nights ago I got a little frustrated that he wanted his way to sleep, ie suckle suckle suckle... and I was really tired. I just wanted to carry him but that didn't help and he didn't want any position that I tried (stubborn), by pushing me away. He kept crying, so I decided that I'm not gonna give in (even more stubborn). OK I have my "mean-days". After more than half hour of crying nonstop, he knew he was not gonna get what he want, and Daddy finally put him to sleep.

Last nite he was very well behaved eventhough he had only 30mins of afternoon nap, compared to his usual 2 hours. After milk and lights off, I put him on the bed and lie down myself. He lied beside me for sometime, then climbed over me in a half kneeling position with his arms pressing on my neck. Oh my poor neck! I dare not move, coz I didn't want him to know I was awake. His face was turned away from mine, but very close and he wasn't moving. I wasn't sure if he was already asleep or eyes still open.

So I waited, despite the difficulty in breathing, for I think... maybe 5 minutes before I called his name softly and asked him if he was awake (not like William could answer me anyway). No answer.

Then I turned him over.

Baby asleep! Yippee! This guy ahh... I think he wants damn lotsa assurance after the night before and the morning seeing me carry another baby.

Or am I just perasan and sensitive?

William doesn't like to sit down

William... sometimes I tease him by saying that his buttocks has got nails... haha, in Chinese there is such a saying especially for people who cannot sit still.

Well, it's a joke, but it's true. My boy loves to walk (aided) and stand (also aided) and now when he eats, we have to strap him on the waist and the shoulder to keep him sitted.

Whenever we go outstation, we make sure we bring along his walker. He loves his independence and given the space, he's run in it, make three point turns, reverse.

In the car, thank God he still knows how to sit and enjoy the ride, but of course, like all babies, there are times when he just can't stand to sit. Haha.

When we change his nappy, he doesn't like to lie down and let us get down to business. He'd stand and hang on to us while we change him, and a few times I got "shot" with his pee just as I take off the soiled nappy. Hhmpk. I will sort this out with him when he's older. ; )

Occassionally he has this song in his head, I think, and his buttocks will suddenly move up and down in a dancing motion. We normally clap our hands to encourage him. He likes that. And sometimes he joins us when we clap and sing. Ada mood la, so don't think you can always see this act.

In the garden, he wants to get down and walk. Like his sister. Like us. He'd try to wriggle out of my arms and somehow end up back in the house... haha.

At the shopping malls, he still can sit in his stroller but with the William-style. That means, sit upright with one arm (normally the right) holding to the front arm rest, half outside the stroller (y'know, like some men drivers). No way is he gonna sleep in the malls, eventhough it's his sleeping time.

Too busy checking out the chics, maybe. ; )

Is this pillow high enough for you?

I slept very well last night despite William waking me up twice. Each time I slept back my head fell onto this rather high, double pillow which Victoria prepared for me the night before.

For the background, Victoria has on her bed, two small pillows (both measuring 1ft by 1.5ft) and a slightly larger one which Popo maid for her, a bolster and her duvet, and of course her sleeping partner, "Heh Heh".

Sometime ago she asked me why I kept taking one of her small pillows to put on top of my own adult pillow. Well, I told her, "mummy's pillow is quite low and I get neck pain. So I like to put two pillows and make them higher." I said something like that. Admittedly, when I took her pillow I didn't actually ask first. (shame, shame on me!)

Last night after lights off (and Heh Heh changed clothes), I told her to wait for me awhile in the room while I say good night to Daddy who's still working on the computer. She followed me out the room less than a minute after I came out, though.

When we got back into the room, I lie down tired and carelessly mentioned without even looking at my pillows, "Eh you changed my pillow."

She said, "Ya you like high pillow, rite?"

I thought she'd forgotten why I use two pillows, and went on to explain that I'd get a little neckache with just my pillow which is too low, and that it's time for me to change my pillow (but dunno why I still don't get down to do it... I'm such a procastinator!!).

Then she asked, "Is this high enough for you?"

Yup, thanks. I replied.

The first time when William woke me, I saw that Victoria has given up her own "large" pillow for me, and not the usual small pillows that I'd take from her.

This girl ahh... despite sometimes saying hurtful things, she's really got a good heart.

(OK, tonight I will return her "large" pillow).
